My dream is to run a local book club with a difference: to encourage people to write more. A place where people who love books and reading can come and chat about the stories which have changed their thinking or even inspired them to change their life. The discussion will cover why stories matter so much to us and how they hold a familiar pattern to inspire, entertain or educate the readers. If you love the idea of writing more yourself, yet don’t know where to start, we will share practical tools and ideas for writing, showing how creativity helps support positive thinking and wellbeing. If you're a seasoned writer, your top tips will be very welcome too for the others in the group.
Bishopston Library has agreed to run this discussion group in person - and the next event will be at 1.30-3pm on Tuesday 21 January. If there's plenty of interest, we'll run it again and continue every month. Come along and join us if:
* You've written a book which changed your life
* You're thinking of writing a self-help book to inspire others
* You've read a book or two which you loved and recommend
* Your life experiences and stories would be an inspiring memoir
* You like the idea of reading more books to inspire you!
Tickets will be available from Eventbrite if you search for Debra Penrice, Stories that Inspire. Or you can pay cash on the door at the library - we charge £3 (plus booking fee on EB) to cover the refreshments which are included.
As Margaret Attwood is quoted as saying, “In the end, we all become stories,” so if you’ve reached an age where your stories are a huge part of your identity, you might be intrigued to learn how much they would inspire others too. Sharing our stories is part of the legacy we leave and a gift for the younger generations.
One author who is working with Debs on his second book has said, “Working together is the difference between thinking about writing and actually writing.” It shows the power of great minds - working together and having accountability for our projects boosts our focus and energy to complete them. So I hope this group encourages people to start writing, whether it's a journal, blog or book.
Please drop me a message in the Contact form below if you're interested in this event but can't make the date or would prefer to meet online.
