“Debs has helped me so much, she is kind and a really good listener. Her hypnotherapy has impacted my personal and my business life in such a positive way. She has enabled me to make space for myself to flourish and I can highly recommend her.”
When family business owner Nicky first contacted me, she had heard hypnotherapy could help with stress, sleep issues and anxiety. Nicky runs a busy cattle farm in Wales with her husband. She was coping day-to-day with the physical work on her farm, caring for her animals, looking after her elderly father and supporting her son’s business launch. Alongside the daily demands of farming, she manages customer deliveries, supplying beef direct to other local businesses. However, her responsibilities left her feeling stressed and frequently on high alert. She found her thoughts were scattered, her sleep was unpredictable, and her health was suffering. The overload of stress and tiredness was preventing her from relaxing or moving forward with her great ideas for the business.
On top of this already full life, Nicky had a vision: to launch a new on-farm experience called Feast and Fire — a series of outdoor dining events celebrating locally sourced food. But as the first event date approached, the pressure began to build. Beneath the surface of her usual kind and friendly self, she was experiencing anxiety and overwhelm.
Although Nicky was excited by the vision for her Feast and Fire series of outdoor dining experiences, Nicky was juggling too much. She had to organise suppliers to celebrate locally sourced food, and hire a chef, oversee the creation of an outdoor kitchen, manage bookings and marketing, and try to keep everything moving forward while maintaining the day-to-day of farm life. Her mind rarely switched off. Sleep had become difficult, her thoughts felt scattered, and she often found herself lying awake mentally running through lists and responsibilities. Like many business owners, Nicky kept going — but she knew something needed to change.
Our hypnotherapy sessions focused on helping Nicky calm her nervous system and move out of the constant “doing mode” she had been living in for so long. Through this work, Nicky began to recognise that her anxiety wasn’t a weakness — it was a protective response from parts of her trying to manage pressure. By acknowledging these parts and gently guiding them, she was able to reduce the internal conflict that had been draining her energy. We explored the different inner voices pulling her in different directions — the part that wanted everything done perfectly, the part that felt responsible for everyone else, and the calmer, steadier part of her that already knew how to lead and prioritise.
As we worked together, Nicky began to recognise that the overwhelm was not a personal failing. It was the result of carrying too much mental load for too long without space to rest. We also introduced anchoring techniques to help her access feelings of calm, positivity and confidence during stressful moments. These gave her practical tools she could use while planning events, coordinating suppliers or making decisions under pressure.
Sleep became an important focus. Nicky began listening to a guided relaxation track in the evenings, helping her mind slow down at night instead of continuing to race through tasks and worries. How well did it work?
One of the first changes Nicky noticed was the improvement in her sleep. Very soon, she noticed she was sleeping more deeply and waking with a clearer head. With more rest came clearer thinking, greater patience and a stronger sense of emotional balance. Instead of constantly reacting to pressure, she felt more able to respond calmly and stay focused on what mattered most.
The mental “noise” she had been carrying began to quieten. She got more organised, made decisions faster and felt far less consumed by stress. Tasks that once felt overwhelming became manageable again.
Most importantly, she successfully launched her Feast and Fire evenings. The events brought together local food and the community in exactly the way she had imagined. What had once felt daunting became something she could genuinely enjoy. Following the success of the first events, she is planning further experiences and expanding the idea with excitement.
Alongside the business changes, something creative also began to emerge. Nicky joined the Friday Creative Café and started gathering photographs and stories connected to her family’s cattle herd and farming history. This process helped her reconnect with the deeper legacy behind her parents’ work and create space for reflection and creativity alongside responsibility.
She now makes more room for small moments of calm in everyday life. One of her favourite rituals is simply sitting on a bench in the sunshine with a cup of tea — something that once felt like a luxury she didn’t have time for. She also enjoys spending time walking her youngest dog, Wilf, who has been taking part in agility classes — bringing lightness and play back into her routine. With the right support and tools, it became possible for Nicky to shift her mindset around self-care and rest, and allow herself time to pause without guilt.
Nicky’s story is a reminder that stress and overwhelm can become a way of life, especially for people balancing business, family and caring responsibilities. Through hypnotherapy, she was able to calm the constant mental pressure, improve her sleep and regain clarity and confidence during a demanding period of business growth..
If you recognise yourself in this story — carrying too much, struggling to switch off or feeling mentally exhausted by your responsibilities — know that change is possible. Sometimes it begins with creating enough space to hear yourself think again.
